Hey Heidi,

Here are some suggestions for your program.  Since you didn't mention
the station's lean, I'll give you something in several categories (not
necessarily just out of the box but certainly beyond the obvious):

--Pop (if you are into cult bands like Go-Betweens, The Apartments
etc.): 
Barefoot is one suggestion, another one is Ashtray Boy.  The latter
gravitates at times toward Nick Cave and is very interesting.

--Alternative:  The Mutton Birds are a must, I'd say.

--Grunge/grunge pop:  Try Kitto.  I brought her recently to play in
Belarus and I can vouch for her studio as well as live work.  Fantastic
low and sensual female vocals, Cobain's presence in her music obvious
but never overwhelming. she is truly individual and very good.  Her
slower stuff like Movement, Don't Follow Me is a heart-stopper.  More
energetic numbers like Bus Drivers top Scandinavian charts (lives in
Sweden now.)  

--Pub no-nonsense rock:  if Radio Birdman is too obvious, try Exploding
White Mice.

--Melodic rock, more along the commercial vein: Bo-Weevils, Icecream
Hands, folks on the list also keep mentioning Vanilla Chainsaws to me,
though I still don't have anything by them.

--Older stuff:  if you are going to play something from the beat era,
see if you can get hold of The Tol-Puddle Martyrs.  Great songs, Time
Will Come is one.  In my opinion, they were an inspiration for quite a
few Australian bands, admitted or not.

--Cow punk/rock, no-one plays it like Australians!  Forget Hoodoo Gurus
for the time being and put on The Johnnys or The Dubrovniks.  Your
audience will be sure to love them.

--On a very specific note, see what you can find on Rick Hammond of
Loki. 
This guy has a future, at least I will never hesitate to give him one if
I could.

That's just off the top of my head.  If you insist on undiscovered
talent, in late October I will be able to ship to you a 4-CD collection
of over 700 Australian artists in different genres (one track per each,
mp3 of course) downloaded over the years from a variety of Web sites.
