You are right Bruce, he did give it 110% for a lot of years, especially =
for making a living out of singing which no one thought he could do in =
the first place! Quite the testament to his desire and commitment. I =
didn't intend to make him out to be "the bad guy" more just venting some =
frustration at the passing of an incredible era of Australian music, one =
that many of us are reluctant to see come to an end.

My feeling on the songwriting credits is a true statement however and =
Midnight Oil still fully exists due to the 2 primary songwriters that =
wrote nearly everything are still active and always itching for an =
outlet. Thank god for the Ghosties and I am incredibly happy to hear =
about Jim and another Fuzz Face project as the first was such a classic.

I knew I'd ruffle feathers, it always happens on this board! :-) =
(Anyone care to debate U2 vs Midnight Oil for the millionth time! :-)

I do believe what someone said about REM though, they lost a founding =
member and continued but I don't think it would have been possible had =
it been Mike.

Oh yeah, Midnight Oil still rule the Earth ;-) Had to have that name =
for a joke about how fanatical they think Pworkers are.

peace.

  49 year old father and activist retires from rock band to spend what =
time he has left with family and in pursuit of passions. Sounds like a =
plan to me. Does every story need a bad guy?

  Pete served the band, his country, the earth, and the fans well for 25 =
years. Bugger all, I won't stand for this kind of sh*t slinging against =
a man of such integrity. Please lets' don't let disappointment get the =
better of us eh!

  cheers,

    Bingo Nina, my estimation too.

    And Peter most likely never wrote anything other than lyrics, and =
that
    usually only meant help in a verse or something like that.

    Jim, Rob and Martin are the musicians. Heck, Pete and Rob HIRED =
Pete. In my
    opinion, they cannot continued without him because of the public =
perception
    of the band even though they were fully prepared to go on without =
him in 85
    and make Rob the singer.

    Petes ego has been harmful to the band chemistry for quite some =
time. Didn't
    you ever wonder why at the height of popularity they suddenly change
    songwriting credits to Midnight Oil and then after popularity fades =
that
    they go back to the actual credits?

    I'm bitter about Pete's decision based on how drastic it affects the
    families of the other members as well as the music. He was with them =
for so
    long and had to know what his de! cision would mean, guess I'm just =
really
    loyal and maybe that's why I have trouble with his decision to go do
    something that he publicly slandered and despised for so long.

    Let's all hope the remaining members do something together, they =
have so
    much creativity and talent!

    will
> >>>> live on.
> =

    Rob says.
> >>>>
> >>>> 'The =
singers are=20
    still in Midnight Oil, we've
> >>> still
>=20

are
>=20
    >>> still in
> >>>> Midnight Oil, and =
we've got=20

gt;>>
>=20
    >>>> The political issues that defined Midnight =
Oil
>=20
    >>> will
> >>>> also still have a strong=20
    presence. Rob says those
> >>>> issues have never =
been=20
    more important to him, and
> >>>> expressing his =
opinions=20
    through music has always
> >>> been
> =
>>>>=20
    his way.
> >>>>
> >>>> 'We've =
always=20
    just made our music and put it out
> >>> =
there
>=20
    >>>> and joined the chorus of disapproval'.
>=20
