MIDNIGHT OIL'S 12-STRING UP FOR SPECIAL CHARITY AUCTION

The original Yamaha 12-string used by Midnight Oil during the late 80's has
been signed by all band members and donated to the Boomerang Project's
Benefit Night for AIDS Orphans in South Africa. This guitar will be a
premier item that will go under the hammer on the night. "We feel privileged
that such a high profile band are supporting this worthy cause" said Diane
Singer, co-ordinator of the project. All band members (Peter Garrett/Bones
Hillman/Rob Hirst/Jim Moginie/Martin Rotsey) have signed the guitar.

The Seymour Centre will host this special Benefit Night for AIDS Orphans on
Thursday 10 April (7.30pm). Included in the show will be razor-sharp
political satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys, R & B sensation Selwyn and well-known
guitarist Peter Dickson. Guest speaker will be Professor Issy Segal, veteran
of three decades working with AIDS patients in Soweto. Compere will be
dynamic radio personality and world music expert Jaslyn Hall. Together with
the auctions and other surprises, the evening promises to be fun and benefit
a much needed cause.

Diane Singer, an ex-South African herself, points out: "The AIDS epidemic
has had a devastating impact on South Africa, with one of the highest
infection rates in the world. There are over half a million children under
15 who have lost a mother or both parents to AIDS. Each year 90,000 babies
are born with HIV." The Boomerang Project is a group of volunteers concerned
about the plight of children who are HIV positive and who have been orphaned
and abandoned...children who have been dealt two cruel blows in their short
lives. It's as bad as it gets. The Boomerang Project is helping to fund the
building of a foster care village which will comprise 8 to 10 cottages, each
with 4 to 6 children and a foster mother, replicating as far as possible a
family environment. With warmth, love and care, and a safe environment,
these children can live full and happy lives. It's their basic human right.
