<I was always trying to work out how the hell he could play two bass drum=
s
as well as a high hat cymbol.....you'd need 3 feet to do that.=0D
=0D
Well not necessarily. You can have your feet over a couple of peddles at
once so when your foot drops they both go down together. It would be
practically impossible though with the set up Rob has. He would need to h=
ave
his high hats on a cable mechanism instead of the stand that he uses. Tha=
t
would be the only way he'd be able to get the peddles exactly side by sid=
e
to do that. But as well as that, it is possible to basically dance betwee=
n
the 2 peddles so that the high hat and bass drum play alternating beats (=
e.g
 - in a 4/4 arangenmet - the left foot plays 1, 2, 3, 4 with 1&3 being on
the BD and 2&4 on the high hats). Then of course you throw in the right f=
oot
doing what ever you can do according to your ability and it would sound a=
s
though you're playing a double bass drums. From there, you're only limite=
d
by your imagination as to what you do! But I am quite sure Rob wouldn't h=
ave
done this! =0D
=0D
There are a couple of guys around the world who do this and similar thing=
s,
but one in particular springs to mind. He's an Australian guy called Gran=
t
Collins ( www.grantcollins.com - although doesn't seem to be working at t=
he
moment so you can check out http://www.drums.com/interviews/grant.cfm if =
you
want to check out his $65,000 drum kit! It's well worth the trip in to ta=
ke
a look!!). He has something like 15 or 17 peddles which he uses "all at o=
nce
i.e., he dances across them to create polyrhythmic beats, and plays a
couple at a time by turning his feet sideways. It sounds like there's abo=
ut
4 guys up there playing! It's not something you'd ever do in a song, it'=
s
purely for drumming satisfaction. But none the less, it is possible to gi=
ve
the impression at least that you are playing 2 things at once with one fo=
ot!=0D
=0D
=0D
>I recall he also used 2 drum sticks in each hand when he played Blot on
Recovery......wouldn't that have hurt ?>=0D
=0D
No, I don't see why, unless he got pinched between the stick! He has done=
that a couple of time but has also at times used a set that look as thou=
gh you are holding about 6-10 small sticks at once. They look like thin p=
ieces of cane or bamboo (someone will have to remind me what they're call=
ed because I cant for the life of me think of the name at the moment!!!).=
But they are bound at the base and it is just like holding 1 stick in ea=
ch hand.
