This is my first post, but after last night's show, I had to write
something.
It was the third time I've seen the Oils live, and last night was a show
I will never forget. If there's a better concert drummer alive than Rob
Hirst, please point him my way. It was astonishing how 'on' he was last
night.
Some of my friends - who had never seen the Oils live before, and don't
even particularly like concerts, all were amazed at the connection
between Peter and Rob.
I've been trying to think about why I am so impressed with these guys as
of late, and I think it's because I cannot name another band EVER who
gave as much as they do at such a 'late' stage in their career. It's
like they still have something to prove. I'm 30, and a huge music fan
but it seems most bands who get to a certain level lose their creativity
and desire. Not so with these guys. Their songs sound like the epitome
of truth to me - no false notes, no false lyrics - whether you've heard
the song a million times or for the first, it just hits you over the
head.
This has to be the best live band in the world and last night reaffirmed
that for me. I felt honored to be in the same room. I only wish they'd
have played Mosquito March!
