Tom

I think you are right to question my view. I wouldn't say they are true
concept albums but they are close and could have been with just a few
changes. Redneck is a whole album inspired by political events in Australia
at the time. I don't know if Redneck was pre-planned or not but when I
listen to it I think it wouldn't have taken much to make it flow from song
to song and tell a story. Red Sails could have been a Pink Floyd album in
parts it just needed to extend some songs and have a common theme. But you
are right they are not in the strictest sense concept albums.

While we are discussing summing up albums is it just me or do Oils albums
have themes that while not unique are dominant? Possible themes of the last
few Oils albums:

D+D - Australia coming to terms with it own history and it's place in place
in the world
BSM - More of the above but with increasing environmental concerns (lots of
use of history) - possibly looking outward to the rest of the world much
more than D+D.
ESM - The spiritual significance of mans interactions with his environment.
The wider view of nature and it's beauty.
Breathe - Healing, resting, change, new life and a range personal human
emotions
Redneck - Political anger, a war waged on stupidity, idleness and bigotry
Capricornia - sounds like it could be more like ESM and D+D

Of course there are exceptions on each album but I think these sum up the
general feel of the album.
