...if it is true that Pete's going into politics full time.

To illustrate, here's a little tidbit right now from Washington that
everyone is scrambling madly to hush up. Fortunately, no bums are
involved - at least, not so far. Somehow a little sneaky bit of text
got KY-jelly'd into the lengthy bill authorizing the "Homeland Security"
office - this is the new office that will slowly slowly erode away our
privacy and civil rights, like a steady diet of Altoids eating their way
into your teeth, while it keeps an eye on people of non-majority
religions and other terrorist types. This rider exempts makers of
vaccines from lawsuits from people who claim their children were harmed
by excessive levels of mercury used as preservatives. (Disclaimer: I
have no personal knowledge of the amounts of mercury involved, so have
no way to judge whether such suits would have merit.) No, it doesn't
belong in a law regarding a totally different subject, but in US
politics you're allowed to do shit like that, don't ask me why. Dubya
appointed the chair of Eli Lilly to the Homeland Security board a while
back. Guess what company makes vaccines???? And strangely enough, NO
ONE on Capitol Hill will own up to having put the damn thing there!
Why, it just appeared somehow! Gawd, I love politics!!!!!

This morning I got in the car, whapped the button on the CD player, and
Bedlam Bridge came on. I damn near cried. Why did it have to be that
song? But if PG can be part of a new political force, then it's pretty
goddam selfish of me to be whining right now just because it'll be
another couple of years until I get to see them live again (I refuse to
believe there will be no reunion. So there.)

The thing is, I've been listening to them for so long that the Oils are
part of my identity. If you asked people who know me to toss out words
and phrases that say who I am and what I'm like, "Oils fan" would be
right in there. So I'm gonna probably continue to sulk for a while till
I get my priorities straight. Hearing that M-H-R-H are in the studio
and PG has officially declared a candidacy would go a long way toward
cheering me up.

Any other Workers in Central Ohio? Want to meet for a pity party Sat.
night?
