It's already happened. In Australia, that is...

Isn't life ironic sometimes? Today I read a review of 'Capricornia' in
my local paper (3 out of 5), so at least the album is finally released
here. Then I read my e-mail to find out this shocking news...

After all, it doesn't come as a total surprise that the end of the band
is near. I mean, it's only natural that a band with a 25-year long
career behind them calls it a day. Heck, twenty-five years are a long
time! Most bands don't exist for such a long time, let alone four of the
members being together from start to end (OK, they're three now).
Though maybe we would have expected a final break-up or a farewell from
the band as a whole, rather than the result of one member leaving. And
not "just the bass player", but the Front Man! Oh God...

If the rest of the Oils will record another album, they don't need to
get a new singer.
There are still three distinctive vocalists in the band, and I'd rather
see the remaining four Oils on their own, than with a new singer
replacing Peter in the spotlight. You can't replace someone like Peter,
and of course, *musically* (nota bene) they can do well without him.
On the other hand, Midnight Oil wouldn't do wrong by quitting the
business for good.

At least we finally got the reason for the cancellation of the European
tour... :-(
And there will never be another one! ,-(

Thank you Peter for everything - in the past, present and the future!
