Powderworkers...
I thought the tour was over Saturday night, but for me it wasn't over until
late Sunday afternoon. Midnight Oil were on my flight to Los Angeles.
Actually someone said, I was on their flight since they had a group of ten or
so and I was only one person.
A few notes on the flight; United Airlines now does a seconding screening for
security purposes. It is a random screening and you are told upon checking
in that you have been selected. Before they board the flight they ask those
people selected to go to an area that is adjacent to the gate. This area is
shaded from public view with one of those moveable walls you see in offices
these days. It seems there was some Australian Profiling going on because
Peter, Rob, Bones and I think atleast Oil three crew members went through the
re-screening process.
During the boarding process Jim was three or four people ahead of me. Upon
handing the ramp agent his boarding pass he started searching his pockets for
something. I said, "looking for your house keys." And he replied, "no
looking for my identity" and then I'm sure he said, "maybe I don't have one."
I said, "I'll vouch for you as a person if need me." I then boarded the
plane.
Now we all think that the Oils live that rock'n'roll life and everything is
hotel suites and first class travel. And when I saw the guys I thought their
going to get a good laugh when I sat down with them in first class. Just if
you were wondering I'm only in first class as result of racking up miles
while working. But when I reached the plane I was surprised to find first
class full. As I was sitting down Jim walked by. He had to stop as someone
was putting luggage into one of the overhead bins. I looked at him and
said, "Uh I feel guilty as I'm up here and all you guys are going back to
coach." And he said, "as a Catholic I can identify with that." We both
laughed.
And that was my brush with fame.
