Hey all
just got home from a long flight and molestation from southwest =
airlines.
We were searched so many times this week that we lost count.
The Orlando show was a killer, Becky and I agree on the description of =
"euphoric". other powders have covered the highlights of that one =
(gymnastics et al) so I won't go into that.
Do to Disney indulgence I didn't get to St. Petersburg until after the =
acoustic set! :( Some folks were waving the Aussie flag in St. =
Petersburg and Bones was moving about the stage more. Peter talked about =
delight of the Florida coast, salt water, and missing home in a round =
about way.=20
New Orleans was quite eventful..
Rob joined the will hoge band on stage by appearing inside "the can" =
popping out like a oscar the grouch ( more like oscar the optimist) and =
trading riffs with there drummer. the Oil crew made several appearances =
during the will hoge set with dolls and stuffed knickers while flirting =
with there drummer. will hoge closed there set by quoting the E G A =
chord signature of BAB.
Peter made comments about
'continuing on with life despite the events',=20
he mentioned the rock n roll myth of losing your fans after a seven year =
drought and that is why they waited only 6 1/2!
he talked about 'desecrating?' the britney spears corporate cat walk or =
words to that effect.
he mentioned that the Oils have been busy back home touring and =
recording, and following many song requests, invited
everybody to OZ to hear them, as they do all there songs there! -- =
How bout bringing the wheel over in Feb. '02--
The Oils closed the performance with will hoge band joining them for =
"Keep On Rockin' In The Free World"!! As Bones jumped into the audience =
with the video camera ( right next to me! ). Peter seemed to get a big =
kick outa seeing Bones filming from the audience. hopefully they will =
get some of this footage up @ midnightoil.com!
As far as guitar gear goes. Martin played the Fender Mustang for the =
majority of the Orlando show and the Washburn for the acoustic stuff. =
The pedals Martin was using were "The Throb", MXR compressor, boss eq, =
digital delay, (and chorus? i think),
digitec whammy, and some big white fuzz. in St. Petersburg and New =
Orleans he used mostly the Guild "blues bird?" (not a reissue) les paul =
type guitar and the washburn. 2 Vox ac30's of course.
Jim used just about everything in his arsenal all three nights: the 50's =
gold top les paul w/ p90's, a Rickenbacher @ Orlando, The Gretsch double =
cutaway country gentleman, dobro electric w/ lipstick and p90 pickups. =
For acoustics, A matte finish Maton, Gibson parlor type, and another I =
am not familiar with. He was using a Fender Tone Master amplifier. I =
didn't get a look at his effects other than the obvious( from a =
distance) line 6 distortion modeler.=20
as for keyboards, I have no idea but there was a korg sampler thingy up =
there. =20
Bones was using Flea type Modulus 4 and 5 strings. His amp was not =
gallien krueger as far as rb series stuff goes. it looked more like =
Aguillar to me.
Rob has a wonderful old rack tom with very tall rims, a tympani, a =
trashed trashcan like banger and a ludwig bass. some type of piccolo =
snare. a great sounding cocktail kit with a separate snare riding a foam =
buffer on top of the cocktail shell complete with funky cymbals, some =
cut in half with sizzle rivets, derby hat cymbals etc.
anyway that is all I can type for know as I am extremely tired, as you =
may tell by my punctuation et al.
great shows!!!!!! a dream come true after sixteen years of drought. =
already starting to get the shakes and counting the days till February =
2002! =20
