Yup.
Sorry... when my wife told me she was chatting with Jon, & I did the usual
'yeah, sure... you've got the ''big-kid'' stuff wrong...' look, darling...' -
and I embarassed myself.
She
showed me the emails. He said he was rubbed out for saying his brother was a
better bass player.
Now....
as Brian says... two thirds of the group would PROBABLY say Giffo's the
ultimate Oils bass player... even if that's not so, the purpose of the forum,
I think, is so we can banter about EXACTLY this kind of stuff...
It's
fun talking with like-minded fans about the 'detail'. Everyone's got their own
opinion... and it probably changes from time to time... Or so I thought.
So...
Jon's sin was he actually said it out loud! (on the "official"
'powderworkers' forum)
As
mine was, apparently, for saying 'selinas tickets?¿? huh??' (yes, I admit that
I'm axe-grinding) But I got a ticket to the selinas gig because of the awesome
(& fair) comeradeship of THIS group (which, i THINK, got allocated THREE
tix, as opposed to 80 ( ? - please correct me if I'm wrong ) ).
So,
since then, I've spoken to a few oils peeps & apparently, the list goes on
about being 'blocked' for just chatting (& NO - for the moment - I'm
ignoring the MENTAL racist, mysoginistic, hateful stuff that seems to have
turned up in that place).
Anyway...
I was getting to the point that, considering the way the facespace group was
going, maybe they should have named themselves the 'Redneck Wonderland' and
just left us to do our stuff?
So,
yeah, I check that stuff out & ROLF all over the
place!!! : D
I'm
looking forward to the new music!

*NEIGH*
(I
told you so! - I'm in the ROFL camp!)
What
do you expect from a group / admin who bans Giffo's brother for saying he
thought Giffo was a better bass player than Bones?
If
they had any integrity, they would have thought about the conflict &
selected their own name / identity for the faceplant group.

I
have no idea what's going on with this, but I feel compelled to say
that
I don't give a damn about FaceBook or anything on it.
I'm
grateful that this list is still active and operating, but I'd like
it
even better if any FaceBook drama-rama is left off of
it.
Thanks in advance,
CH

Yeah,
sounds like another spat has erupted over authenticity.
I'll be
responding to it with the temperament of an historian. All events deserve a
mention, none deserve singular promotion. Let history run its own course.
Cheers.

While
I much prefer this classic Powderworks mailing list, the Facebook version is
okay for what it is. But I never thought I’d see the day when Facebook
factions were getting all “Oilier than thou”! :D

I
reckoned perhaps it was because someone asked what people thought of Greta
Thunberg... and unfortunately and predictably some alt-right hateful &
mysoginist memes got posted in reply, along with the “I wish they’d keep the
politics out of their music” fluff.
So yeah if the “forgotten years”
between yours are going to contain mostly that sort of baloney or endless
pictures of spread hands I’m inclined to be in a “more real” group too
😏

Always
glad to see the original Tim Hunter add his $0.02 worth! I just lurk on this

While
we’re here…
Has anyone heard any more concrete plans for Oils new music
or gigs 2020?
AND I probably skipped over it but does anyone have an
audio of the Oils in Canberra from May (what a night) that we/I can download
from somewhere?
PS facebook is built for inane banter and time
wasting, especially since the ‘yoof' deserted it in droves as their parents
joined in…

They
are definitely recording and there's some talk of gigs next year - the
former is definitely concrete, the latter more
plaster-of-Paris...
