Well said Cheryl. I was lucky enough to see the Oils in the Sydney area several times in 2017, as well as once in New York. It was magic sharing and feeling the buzz of more Oils gigs; despite or most probably because of us all being that little bit older. This list has been very good to me over the years; my regret is being too much in the background.

it’s great that so many fans have united and re-united via the PW FB page, but for lurkers i.e. Introverts like me, i’ll definitely remain in the shadows.

All the best to you all -

Stu

I had the pleasure of running this site for a few years, starting before Wave Aid.  Sign-up was required to weed out any spam, as well as to give newbies a place to get acquainted, but in the spirit of the Oils way of doing things - all were welcome.

The thing that bothered me was how some shows we're considered "elite", therefore being almost impossible to get by most.  Bootlegs are bootlegs - I know directly from the band that they weren't thrilled about the trading of ANY of them.  The direction I got was that under no circumstances would trading of demos or cash for shows be tolerated.  I did everything to enforce these wishes, and I never got pushback from anyone about it.

I went to a few shows in the Northeast US last year and caught up with some long, lost friends and met some of you that I got to know on this list.  The experience of spending the afternoons with everyone and enjoying the shows together will last a lifetime.

FB PW is a bit too loud for me, and has the tendency to be about one or two enthusiastic fans, instead of our beloved Oils, but we still have this little haven, thanks to those who keep it alive.  I like to think if it as the adults' table - we're a bit older, a bit wiser, maybe a bit more tired, but it sure feels good to sit here with the family I've been with for so many years and share stories about the best band on the planet 😊

Cheers,
Cheryl

Cooee   Checking in too.

yes, the powderworks list was first on majordomo.colorado.edu courtesy of Tim Hunter.

the medium naturally thinned out the attendees to net- and net-etiquette- savvy, mad-keen oils folks.  fb opens the flood gates on the first two, so any net-noob but mad-keen oils fan can yammer on and gulp down reams of content.

maybe an oils gathering that requires crawling through barbed wire thins out the less durable.  :D

just a reminder ... http://powderworks.org   is intended to be a long-long-term signpost in case this group or yahoo ever tanks unexpectedly.  if so, look there for directions on how to reset to a new location.

So you weren't a fan of the recent post to write the title of an Oils song using only emojis? Stuck out tongue winking eye

I’ve been here since April 2001 which coincides with the date I got my first management job which was when I first got internet access. My eBay and Amazon accounts are from the same week.
The Facebook site is becoming a bit of a monster now. There’s still lots of great things on there but as I’m scared I’ll miss something amazing like an offer of tickets to an Oils gig in Rob’s living room I tend to sift through nearly everything. If I see another poll for which band member has the nicest eyes or when someone mentions every time they hear Beds on the radio, I’ll boke (puke, barf, etc) 😄

G'day all fellow non-FB dinosaurs,

The first you're probably all aware of, but I only just came across it- Rob's EP Powerful owls, with Lez Karski (producer of HI and BN) and guitarist/singer with Bondi cigars among others, and Jack Howard on brass. Giving it a first listen as I type this - sounds like a ripper. You too can listen to it in full on Rob's website:

The next is an interview with the director of MO 1984 Ray Argall on ABC RN's screen show. I thought it was noteworthy that the interviewer went into the film not a MO fan, but was by the end of it. Scroll down to the May 3 show. It's the first interview, but if you're into film etc, the rest is worth a listen too.

Cheers
David
