Midnight Oil

I'm sitting thousands of miles away sick of the thought of all these new cover songs being played  and me not hearing them. The Oils rarely ventured into cover territory with the odd exception (Nick Lowe, Animals, Nick Cave, Saints). I'd love to hear all these new additions to the catalogue.
Lucky Aussies.

**CONTAINS SPOILERS**

Maybe the audience was subdued due to the staff strictly enforcing the "no phones" rule.  When people held their phones up to record they were stopped pretty quickly.  Good for viewing the performance but it probably dampened spirits a bit.

I couldn't open the attached set list but as you said "Bus to Bondi" was great.  And female vocals added richness and beauty to "Dead Heart".

A generally feisty feel to the whole gig.  Reflected the "I'm back" and "I'd do it all again" (and again) vibe.  The folksy feel to some of the tracks on the album was translated to a full and solid feel from the stage.  The support Abby Mae was at her best in the slow, bluesy pieces.  Heartfelt, touching stuff, polished off with a rocky, apocalyptic number.

After PG danced for a bit (although much less physical than, say, the whirling dervish in 1985 at Goat Island) my mate had to say "he's still got the moves".  A Kev Carmody cover "Thou shalt not steal" for one of the encores.

Mentions of Queensland politics, with how former Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen (his corruption was proved only after his death, so he kept the knighthood) would send Special Branch to keep an eye on things Oily.  The mangled apricot hell-beast property developer (you know who he is) also got a mention, followed by PG quickly remarking that "we better make sure Hillary gets elected".

A really good night out (although drinkies were a tad pricey, like the tickets).

Strange subdued audience - we all got up for the encore, but otherwise rows of seating. PG encouraged people to stand up.
