Hi Tom & Simon,
I'd take those dates (& venues - you notice there's no venues listed?) with a grain of salt....

The listings at: http://mandonnet.jeremie.perso.neuf.fr/

which was just copied from a previous listing from the early version of this group.
And they were just added to, by anyone, as time went on.

Although there is a lot of info, there, that is pretty accurate... there's also an awful lot that's not even close.

That listing (for December 1980) was taken from a generic national magazine ad... which basically meant 'we're in the road, in these areas, over these dates.... look to local sources to see when/where we're playing.' so it doesn't mean they played every date over that period.
For example... 25th & 26th are public holidays. NOTHING was open... so it was highly unlikely they played anywhere on these dates (unless it was in someone's garage).
They didn't play on the both 30th & 31st (NYE) because the last gig of the tour was a special one on the 29th.
20, 21, 22 was the weekend of the notorious Broadford Festival where the band played for the Hells Angels. They did one gig, over these 3 days & then got the hell out of there...

So, anyway.... these dates have been compiled with a whole bunch of speculation added... and then they become 'gospel', as the years go by.
And most of the listing is like that (especially in the early years...). It's even funnier when the distances/travel time between gigs aren't considered.... especially for the early ones... because they didn't fly anywhere... it was all done in a van.

I hope this helps,
cheers,
p.l.

A very intense touring schedule - 16 days straight there at the end of 1980.  Who says that period was just mung beans and flower chains?

Bonjour,  I need some help please.  One of my favourite Midnight Oil internet sites has disappeared or crashed this past week.  It has concert dates and set lists etc on it and I refer to it at least 2-3 times a week.  It appears it is based on an internet server in France.  I am hoping it belongs to one of our French Powderworkers and there is a simple solution to fix it.  Site is:  http://mandonnet.jeremie.perso.neuf.fr/  Merci  Au Revoir  SK.

Hi Tom,

Yes they actually played 25 days out of 31 in December that year across 3 states of Australia.

One question has been bugging me for years. Where did they play on 25/12. I know there were some dodgy operators of licensed premises back then but everything was always shut on Christmas Day in those years.

It could have been a community gig at a nursing home or diggers home?

If anyone has any idea please let us know.

Regards,

SK
