Don’t forget to throw in the Warumpi Band CD’s to break up the endless cycle of Oils songs…  Seriously driving through that part of the country with those songs playing was a fantastic experience.  I made a “desert” playlist on the iPod, with all the suitable Oils, Warumpi, Neil Murray, Goanna etc.

Make sure you give enough time to the Olgas.  Uluru tends to dominate that area but really only needs one visit (do the walk around!).  We barely scratched the surface of the Olgas by not allowing at least a couple of days for that area.

Kings Canyon is magnificent, and needs two visits, one to do the short walk inside the canyon and one to do the rim walk around the top (3 hrs or so)

We did the West MacDonnells in a day and saw pretty much all the highlights.

As for Warakurna, Docker River, Kintore, etc, they are significantly further away!  And not really suitable for touristing anyway.  They were cool to drive through, but you don’t really want to stop and treat the locals like some sort of zoo exhibit.

Jeff…
