It was Steve Jackson from Jackson's Rare Guitars. He said he sold the guitar to Martin and later had an opportunity to buy it back. It was the 1964 red Jaguar Martin plays in Oils on the Water.

Seems Steve Jacksons business no longer exists - http://cxmagblog.com/2012/11/27/jacksons-rare-guitars-closure-raises-questions/

I wonder where the guitar is now.

There was a thing on ABC TV a few years back, I think it might have been that “Collectors” show.  They featured a guitar collector who had in his collection Martin’s old Fender Jazzmaster (seen in the Oils On The Water video).  It might still be findable online somewhere.

A few years back there was someone on this list who had compiled a lot of info on what gear the guys were using on stage.  I can’t remember who it was, but maybe they are still here somewhere?

Anyone have much detail on the Oils' gear?

I know Martin played a '63 Strat for the longest time.  Was that basically off-the-rack?  Jim played a bunch of Gibsons, as I recall.  I also seem to recall Marshall stacks.  Anyone know what was on their pedal boards?

(I have this Strat you see.....)
