Heres some Wikileaks for ya

In Victoria a desalination plant has been build next to a Marine and Coastal Park , Less then 20 kilometers from a Penguin Parade that is Australia’s most popular wildlife attraction and home to the largest Little Penguin colony in the world at Phillip Island,

So According to the Department of Sustainability
and Environment and federal Environment
Minister Peter Garrett, The Bass Coast is not an
important area for migrating whales.
Try telling that to the whales.
Since locals and visitors began a whale
watch in late April,2009 there have been 133
humpback whales spotted and 18 southern
right whales.

Somebody's got you on that treadmill, Boys and Grils
And I hope you're not beaten yet not yet

Interesting - I'd heard on the radio that PG was negotiating behind closed doors for the minimisation rather than cancellation of whaling. Looks like that's BS - once again the mainstream media (in this case, ABC!) reports the Oppostion's commentary uncritically.
