There's an International Whaling Commission meeting next week, at which the re-introduction of commercial whaling is proposed, ironically in the UN International Year of Biodiversity.

The ABC has a bit more context, referring to allegations of bribery by the Japanese Govt:

PGa is describing the meeting as the most important since the IWC banned commercial whaling in 1986.
