Re: [powderworks] Oils collection destroyed

Midnight Oil

Hi Matt

Sorry to hear that.

I can help out with some printed articles on the Oils going back to the early/mid 80’s thru til now (most are from ~1983-1996; then I lived overseas for the rest of the 90’s so not much material was collected then).

These articles are from newspapers and Australian music magazines –eg Sydney Morning Herald, Rolling Stone, Drum media, as well as some of which are long out of print like Edge, Juice and On the Street.

I’ll scan them and make them into pdf’s so I can send by e-mail – it might take some time but I will get onto it ASAP.

All the best

Cheers

Stu

Happy New Year to all.

My house burnt down on New Year's day.  My biggest regret is that I lost my Oils stuff, among the rest of my massive music library.  I spent years getting it all.

I am hoping that anyone with extra copies of bootlegs, singles, posters postage stamps, books, interview discs, wave aid & other dvds, rolling stone covers, etc. would be willing to offer anything.  Or, that people would notify me if they see anything in used shops I may need.  I would be willing to pay for items, but I am limited with finances at the moment.

I do not have an address arranged yet, so this is just an attempt to put out "feelers" and see if anything bites.  It wasn't the biggest collection, but I really want to get it all back, if possible.

The main thing is, I caught a drumstick from Rob at a Cleveland Oden show in 2001, who threw it purposefully right to me for my "Garret dance".  That is the one thing I really never see on e-bay, and which concerns me most, along with the autographed set list from the show.  I also had a letter from Arlene Brookes at the office, circa Redneck, that contained a interview disc for Scream in Blue Live that of course can never be replaced.  I had the OilsLive project, the Powdies tributes and official one, a few bootlegs of radio or soundboard shows such as: woprld cafe, ronnie scott's,  Newton theatre, Magnus goes to the show, WXRT chicago, Macambo club, among others all the books written by or about the band (except for Political Blues, all the spin-offs except for Hunting Party, all of the singles with rare b-sides (and "b-sides themselves"), the cd-rom added tracks edition of capricornia, the gold disc of 20,00 watt, all Oz dvds with Oils shows, both
stamps & post cards, a sprint beanie, some posters, etc.

My major contribution to the list was that I bought the 2001 Ohio show that is of soundboard quality- can't remember the venue for the life of me now, from the soundboard guy who sold it on e-Bay.  Soon it spread via Cheryl and Andy all over the place.  That one came from me.  I hope this one thing gives me some kind of karmic payback now.  That and the fact that I once sent a flat chat sniglet to somebody here who never sent me mine, in a swap for the correct size.  (Somebody on e-pay never sent me a poster once, but that has nothing to do with the list.)

I had a couple of bootleg dvds, but I can't remember what they were called.  One of the one's Jeff Scott did, and the one with Much Music Canada.

As for Rolling Stone covers, I had a BSM era one, and one the declared the Oils "Band of the Eighties"  That was my favorite by far.  I always wanted to frame that, but only ever framed Diesel and Bsm, in LP frames.

That's it.  Sorry for the ramble.  I will repost once in a great while to remind people that I am still looking, or what I may still need.  I should note that several months ago a couple of Powdies graciously offered to send me some bootlegs, as I still wanted to add more to my collection.  If the offer still stands, I'll take whatever I can get.  Again, as soon as I arrange an address or P.O. Box.

Thanks workers of the world, for whatever may come,

Matt Mesina
