I have simply re-authored the DVD through DVDShrink: thrown out the menu
(main movie only) and no compression necessary. It resizes the vobs to
1GB. Seems to be working fine.

Somehow I'm not surprised, given all the fun error messages I've got
so far - also, the VOB's are a weird size, most odd that they're split
at 750mb intervals rather than at 1GB. Wouldn't surprise me if they're
one and the same problem.
Have you tried concatenating them using a command prompt? Like so:
copy /b vob1.vob + vob2.vob + vob3.vob bigvob.vob
That method hasn't failed me yet. Takes a while, though.
BTW, that program link I posted won't work, it's only suitable for
program streams. There are others out there like it, though, including
a tool in DVDLab.

being encoded as 16:9 anamorphic, the headers identify it as normal
4:3. Every player will handle this differently, hence the differences
we've been hearing about. I -think- http://www.geocitie s.com/eby_
vdo/index. html#download should do it, but it doesn't like my partial
VOB very much. Use it in advanced mode, and tell it to set the aspect
ratio to 16:9.

personally i would not do it with the dime copy since i believe it has
not been authored properly and i spent most of last Sunday tinkering
with it in an attempt to re-author but gave up. i am waiting on
another copy from justin and when i get it i will attempt to convert
to ntsc, unless someone else already did it
