Im not fancy with all this GPS stuff, but I reckon that Town Hall station on George St in the city is a great one to include. And of course the bus stops along Bondi Beach always had me break into song.

What about Powderworks Avenue in Narrabeen?

Goat Island

The M5 as it goes under the runway behind the airport, ala the Beds Are Burning vid clip. I always get a rush when I drive under a huge Qantas.

Yes the Royal Antler is gone forever one of the best shows I ever saw was there but also The State Sports Centre Homebush was also good, The Family Inn Rydalmere gigs was also memorable. The Oils were one of the first bands ever to play at the Sydney Entertainment Centre not long after the 10 to 1 album saw the light of day. I also saw them at the Capital and Enmore Theatres and some small hall at Newtown. Coogee Bay Hotel, Parramatta & Manly Leagues, Castle Hill RSL, and the SCG. I saw them in the rain at Cronulla but nothing will ever match the gig at Goat Island.
I was only talking to a friend about this the other day. Yep I have all there albums, CD's & DVD's, books etc and spent a shit load of money on t-shirts & booze. Am I bitter that they are no longer together "hell yes" I feel that they still owe me given the way it all ended. But at the end of the day nobody can take the memories and my ears still ring from those small room they use to play in. I always read the e-mails of other tragic's like myself who for one reason or another just can't let it go. I recall playing a Rickenbacker Guitar that was once own by Jim at the guitar shop on Parramatta Rd Stanmore, came that close to buying it ......

The big gigs were good the smaller ones were better..!!!!

Oils forever forever Oils.......

OK... here's a new game to start off the new year.
Let's build another database:
OILS venues.
I'm frequently asked about the locations of various oils-related places.

While discussing some Oils stuff, with a couple of oily friends, I
realised how much I rely on Google earth, now. I also realised that
Google earth's refresh rate is quite tragically slow.
There are a lot of key Oils venues that still only exist on Google
maps (until the next upgrade).
Also, when trying to work out where the heck some of my live overseas
oils shows were played at, I actually have no idea what/where they were.

So... Workers of the World UNITE!!!

Lay down the co-ordinates of WHERE you saw the Oils play (or
super-neat things like... Where is the House on the front of the D&D
cover, Where is the salt lake where the BSM cover was shot, Where the
hock-shop is that you saw Bones' gold bass for sale when Oils
disbanded & he went back to NZ). Be imaginative & help the other
powderworkers know where it's at, internationally.
Who knows... programme them into your navman so you know that you're
near oily sacred ground whenever you're anywhere in the world.

I have no idea how this is going to be administrated (not by me) & I
don't know that the sites can be laid into Google maps to be
searchable as 'OILS' locations... . but, to start it off.... here's the
first post. I didn't want to be a hog, so I put up a dozen that people
generally wouldn't know about.
Needless to say.... PLEASE be sensible & DON'T post personal
information about the band members / staff.

By the way... this will be your last look at the Antler (the spiritual
homeland of the Oils) & Dee Why pub as they have been knocked down
since the Google maps were logged. On the next refresh, they're gone
forever!

I'm not necessarily putting the stories with them, this time around,
but may do so in the future.
Also, if you have upgrades to positions that others have posted,
please add: UPGRADE-2008. XX.XX to the end of the title, so we can
keep some kind of track of it.
Any ideas on how to make this an active, editable database would be
hugely appreciated (I'm just logging it all into my GM client with
push-pins, at the moment).
If you want to post on Google Earth with a pic of you & various band
members pre/post gig - i guess that would be way cool.

anyway, let me know what you think. Good idea? stupid? who cares?
couldn't be arsed? glad I can unload 30 years of post-it notes before
I die?

cheers & Happy New Year to all, pl.

oh, yeah.... please... DON"T GUESS. Go the extra distance & find out,
for sure (or at least nominate that it's a guess).
