No such thing as Chat inside a Yahoo Group...

Why is Chat not available in Yahoo! Groups? Is there any way to

We’re focusing on the latest Yahoo! Messenger chat technology, which the majority of our users prefer and is available today.

There's nothing set up at present for powderworks chat. It's worth scanning the technology horizon to pick something wisely rather than just fall into whatever is someone's personal preference.
I'd try to get away from everyone having to get a MSN, Yahoo, or ICQ login. Their membership processes are quite invasive. Jabber is ok but weakly supported by the commercials. A web based chat window might work ok, if you can find one that is both spam-proof and free. Maybe I/someone can set up one? I have some server and bandwidth space, might even be an app in cpanel that is ok to use? (Wordpress?) For that matter, a blog generally allows some chat functionality ... a powderworks blog? I've never kept a blog for philosophical reasons ... anyone like them?
Other suggestions?

If the yahoo groups interface has a "chat portal"  that would be the best choice, so that users aren't required to get new logins beyond their existing Yahoo Groups powderworks login.
There was another French user about 6-12 months ago.  He's been quiet for a while.
