What an incredible source of info you are Mr Lurker. Great to know more
about that festival/show. Does this help anyone with some leads now ????

I have attached a scan of the 'steaming head' shot that has been mentioned
to help clarify for those who don't have the song book with the pic on it.
this picture is credited to Brent Hopping. I'm sure he would have some great
pics of that night if he managed to take this one.

Also attached is a scan of another page from the same song book for the
music for Written in the Heart. There is b&w picture of a few old Oils
posters on a brick wall with the old guy beside them. I think this Tanelorn
poster/guy pic is also on a Place w/o a Postcard fold out poster that came
with the original vinyl album.

That's the one, Todd.

Pete was wearing the plaid shirt / lumberjacket because it was freezing - my
wife was there & she reckons (from a VERY shaky memory) that they played
very early on the monday morning, before Split Enz (who DEFINITELY came off
second best!)... and she vividly recalls Pete's steaming head as he charged
around the stage (her quote... "f#cking, F#CKING cold!). There were bonfires
all over the place (mostly started by the bikies) with people struggling to
keep warm & there were film crews about for just about every band, that
weekend.

As for the footage? The original production company would have held onto the
negatives and raw footage. Oils would have undoubtably gotten copies to
use/work with (esp. since some turns up in the 'Sometimes' clip, 10 years
later - it's not the original Sometimes clip - but from the SIB promo video,
I think). Film companies (and their footage) come & go but at least the oils
seem to have access to some of it, in their archives.

In 2005 a fellow by the nom-de-plume 'Golfer' listed that he had a "direct
from the desk cassette recording" of most of the bands playing that weekend.
MrNoisy valiantly tried to track them down but it looks like there was no
result.
Funnily enough, to my knowledge, none of the other performances has leaked
out, yet, either (that's in 27 years!! - the anniversary's coming up in 2
weeks).

The way things are going, in the music industry... we'll probably have to
outlive all the band members before any remaining music is
released/accessed. Now THERE's a dire thought!

I also think think there were stills included, from Tanelorn, in the
original Oils song/tabs book (that's from MY shaky memory).

btw:
Among the 22 bands, that weekend (I can't be bothered dragging out the info
on the rest, at the moment):

Split Enz
Rodriguez (conjecture whether he played or cancelled. One report that he
played on the Friday night, another that he played before Midnight Oil!).
Billy Thorpe
Max Merritt
Broderick Smith & his Big Combo (coincidentally, playing with Rob & Dom in
The Backsliders, now)
Midnight Oil
Kevin Borich
Mi-Sex
Swanee
Men At Work
Bushwackers
The Church
Red Gum (sic)
No Fixed Address
Spyz
Gold Rush (sic)
Earth Star
Pink Flamingos

also... :
Sunnyboys (I saw the drummer's copy of their filmed performance, years ago.
It looked sensational!!!)
Matt Finish
Moving Pictures

also btw - The Sea Eagles vs the Sharks in the Grand Final!! :)

tha-tha-tha- tha's all, folks!

I think the footage he's referring to is the footage with Peter with a plaid
shirt on and his head steaming like crazy?? At least that is what I've
always associated with the Tanelhorn gig.

Good info.

How do you know this footage is of this mysterious Tannerlorn gig ?

I am trying to think back to some alt Sometimes clip but am not coming up

with anything from my grey matter. Anyone else recall this footage Adrian

refers too ?

I seem to remember there was a live composite film clip for Sometimes

that was released around the time of Scream In Blue that contained

footage from the Tannerlorn show. I can't confirm for sure because

the clip on 20000w RSL is different, I don't seem to have converted it

from my old VHSs and after a quick check, its not on youtube. I'm

positive there is Tannerlorn footage in there though which would lead

one to believe it was, at least in part, filmed. All the other

footage from the live Sometimes clip is the usual stuff, Capitol,

Exxon etc that we all know.

Can anyone shed any more light?

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this post, but I thought it was sort of

relevant and worth asking.

Adrian

Good luck Bruce, we've been looking for these since the mid-80's!

Along with

the Tanelhorn 1981 show that exists as well.

Hi,

Apparently these shows exist, but I have never come across them. Anyone
