Agreed!

Just to make it clear: when I talk about the 'original source' I mean the digital medium (e.g,. a DVD created from VHS) that has been used to create the clip uploaded to YouTube. That last step always means a significant loss of both sound and image quality and I'm terrified by the idea of anyone making a DVD of back-converted YouTube material that floats around the trading community not clearly distiguishable from the previously specified 'original source'. The same applies to mp3-converted material.

Thats all good, and I agree with you.

But nice to have a copy if one can't access the 'original source.' Judging by what I've been able to convert, the quality's a whole lot better than old vhs I dubbed years ago - especially the sound quality. Maybe vhs is closer to the 'original source' but likely to be of lesser quality, more likely to deteriorate and much more difficult for people to readily access.

Anyways, it's there, it's useful, go nuts.

I'm totally against converting anything back from such sites as YouTube,
let alone circulating it further. The quality is always inferior to the
original source. Trading should always be in the highest possible
quality and no lossy formats be spread. YouTube is a good indicator of
what rarities are out there but should never be used as a source. Just
my opinion.
