Wow. Nobody's out to give you false hope that you have more email. It's just a function of how most email programs work by default. It's been happening forever.
If I just hit reply to a Powderworks message, my reply only goes to the sender. In order to get the reply to go to the list, you need to hit "reply all". Only problem is that "reply all" sends the reply to the entire list and the original sender. I guess some (many?) people don't think or bother to remove the redundancy.
Suck it up and look and see if your emails with identical subjects have identical send times. If so, you got copied on a message twice, and just delete one. It's not really the end of the world.
