I don't quite understand it when people say that even if Bones had left, it wouldn't be Midnight Oil anymore.

Bones is great.  But he's also the band's 3rd bassist, and was with the band for only the latter half of their career.  Surely it was Midnight Oil before Bones.  Surely D&D was Midnight Oil, and Red Sails was Midnight Oil.  And for that matter, it was Midnight Oil before Giffo.

Again, nothing wrong with the man, but the Oils came into their own without him, and could still be the Oils without him.
