Well the report on last nights M1 gig will vary depending on who you spea=
k
to!! For myself, unfortunately, I wasn't exactly pumped at the end of it!
But having said that, I wasn't too excited at this prospect to start with
anyway! Having to sit through a bunch bands that I don't like all day,
waiting for the the best to come last at what was at times, the corniest
festival I have ever been to! Commercials being played on big screens in
between acts, commercial radio announcers doing cheesy interviews with th=
e
bands as the walked off stage, and some looser MC at the skate board ramp
talking in a fake American accent was enough to make the skin crawl, even=
 on
those with the thickest hide. Evidentially, those with the thickest heads
loved it! The food abd drink line ups were huge and basically the logisti=
cal
aspect of it was organised pretty poorly. The one exception was the time =
of
change over of staging and bands. That was done really well and there was
only a short wait between acts.=0D
=0D
As for the Oils went, well a fairly predictable set was played (given tha=
t
the whole thing was organized by a commercial radio station). Still, for =
me,
the Oils were far and away the best band (especially since they were abou=
t
the only band not to tell the crowd to get fucked!)! The set went somethi=
ng
like this (cant remember exactly what order and no one got a set list as =
far
as I know):=0D
=0D
Redneck Wonderland=0D
Too Much Sunshine=0D
Blue Sky=0D
=0D
Rob out front:=0D
Luritja way=0D
Short Memory=0D
Beds=0D
=0D
Rob back (in no particular order):=0D
Only the strong=0D
King of the Mountain=0D
Dead Heart=0D
Golden Age=0D
Dreamworld=0D
=0D
Other highlights of the set was a rant by Pete about Australia not being =
a suburb of the USA (sure to have upset some of their fellow performers o=
n the night! Too bad to them!) and Pete dragging out a flair at the end o=
f the set in Dreamworld (although I'm sure Martin and Bones after getting=
 showered with some of the sparks spraying from it wouldn't agree to that=
 bit being a highlight!)
