I am still in somewhat of a state of shock like most others. Thankfully the
band has ended on their own terms, if not Pete's, & luckily not ended like
INXS's. The influence the band has had on me for the past 21 years is
incredible. Maybe I don't agree totally on some issues Pete & the band
raised, but have a great deal of admiration for Pete & the boys being willing
to stick their neck's out, regardless of critism & get their point of view
across regardless of others opinions.
Many people have tried to redicule Pete & the band. Anything from Pete's
dance style, their political views, sticking up for the Aboriginies & who
could ever forget the "sorry" message at the olympics. Through all this, they
have continued where many others failed. There have been some immitators &
others bands trying to get their views across like the Oils did, but they
will be best remembered for being the "yardstick" in this catagory.
The question that remains is, will we get to have at least 1 final "goodbye"
show? Being from Geelong in Victoria, I feel that it would be unfair to
select Melbourne above anywhere else, but I feel that it would be most
appropriate for the band to do a big send off in Sydney. I wonder if as
passionate as most of us Oils fans are what would be the possibility of
seeing them one more time if the demand for such a show is there? I'll
guarnatee this tho, if they do a final gig in Sydney, I'll be busting my gut
to get there.

Finally, hopefully these messages get to the band somehow, to Pete, Rob, Jim,
Marty & Bones, also going back to Giffo & Bear, I can't thank you enough for
the influences you have put in my life. The influence in Power & the passion,
Back on the Borderline, Beds are burning, Blue sky mine kept my feet tapping &
home stereo thumping at unbelievably high decibels!, I can't thank you
enough for the brilliant concerts that I have been priveledged to have seen
over the last 20 years, The sweat, dancing, singing, high fives from Pete,
also being fortunate enough & privelidged to meet Pete, Rob & Marty after a
show in Geelong. To fortunately have a signed T-shirt that is framed on the
wall in my home, the souvenier drumstick that I managed to get after a show.

There will be no other Midnight Oil, there will be immitators, but noone ever
will have the infulence that the Oils have had. You will be greatly missed,
but many memories of great times remain with me forever.

"THESE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN YEARS"!

Matt in Geelong, Vic, Oz
