To be nit-picky, Gilmour was already a lead singer while Waters was still in the band. Keyboardist Rick Wright sometimes sings as well. Gilmour was not in Pink Floyd until their second album. On their first one (which I have from the library at the moment) Syd Barrett was the singer and guitarist and wrote all songs but one.

Other bands who had three or more songwriters and lead singers *simultaneously* were Queen, and of course the Beatles.

So true! The Cure is definitely one (THE one?) of the bands who has changed line-up most times.
They have been everything from a duo, or even a one-man band, to a 6-piece...

It's not that much that Robert wouldn't sing in any other band though, as he in fact has sung for the band The Glove, and he has also played with Siousxie and the Banshees. I rather think the problem is that no other people sing with the Cure. Apart from the first bass player, no other Cure member has even contributed backing vocals; all voices have been Robert, so of course the harmonies from the records are sadly missed in concert...

That's one thing I love about the Oils: the sound of different voices together, harmonies. Their performance of "Golden age" at Letterman was interesting; Bones and Jim echoed the "tell me what you see..." lines, while "it's the golden age" at the end of the chorus was just Pete and Rob!
