That version of Read About It is certainly a great mix. The separation and clarity of the guitar parts when listened to with good headphones is awesome. For the hell of it I went back and listened to my favourite live versions, in particular from Oils On Water and the "Murdoch Alligator Express" version from the Black Fella Whitefella doco. Without passing comment on whether the 2009 version is better or worse than any other (in the spirit of playing nice), on listening to the various versions it becomes apparent, a) the constancy with which they paly the song live, and b) how great Jim's blistering guitar tone is in the opening riff – regardless of the version.

So this is a question for the guitar nerds among us (and that's a term of endearment, not an insult): What effect does Jim use for the opening riff? In Canberra, if memory serves correct he plays a 3 pick-up Les Paul Custom through a Fender Tone Master, Oils On Water is his Gretsch through a pair of Roland JCs and the "Murdoch Alligator Express" version is his Gretsch through a Mesa Boogie combo, yet the tone is amazingly consistent. Anyone hazard a guess what dirt pedal he uses?

OMG. Just listened to Read About It at high volume. Damn that is a great mix, and great version of the song. Jim & Martin’s playing is fantastic. Such a better version than the one on Scream In Blue and every other “recording” I have.

Please Sony, can we have the whole show? Pretty please?
