For OS Powdies, Cold Chisel were contemporaries and friends of the Oils. Though they were never as successful overseas as MO, they were arguably more successful on Oz than MO, despite a shorter career.

On a personal note, following my teenage niece expressing interest in CC, I've been listening to their albums on continuous play on my iPOD, after not having given them a go for quite a while...and I'm appreciating their work more than ever - dynamic guitar and beautiful vocals from Ian Moss, fluid bass lines from Phil Small, Barnesy (what can I say?) Don Walker's keyboard stabs and awesome songwriting, and Prestwich's fabulous drumming. All of which had me looking forward even more keenly to (another) reformation tour this year behind a new album, which they've been working on for nearly a year - they've taken the time to make sure they get it right before releasing it to the legion of fans.

A sad loss indeed.
